Parmigiani Fleurier unveils the new Tonda PF Hijri Perpetual Calendar as a sophisticated homage to the Tabular Islamic calendar, a system conceived by Muslim scholars and astronomers in the 8th century. This calendar facilitates the conversion of Islamic dates to Gregorian ones and underpins the functionality of the Hijri Perpetual Calendar. The Islamic calendar's inaugural year aligns with 622 CE, commemorating the Prophet Muhammad's migration, or Hijrah, from Mecca to Medina.
Differing from the solar-based Gregorian and lunisolar Chinese Xiali calendars, the lunar Hijri calendar is aligned with the moon's phases. It follows a 30-year cycle, with each year comprising 12 months that last either 29 or 30 days. Within this cycle, there are 19 common years of 354 days and 11 abundant years of 355 days, allowing the calendar to maintain its alignment with the lunar cycle over time. The Tonda PF Hijri Perpetual Calendar not only serves as a timekeeping instrument but also as a bridge connecting modern horology with centuries-old astronomical knowledge.

The newly unveiled Tonda PF Hijri Perpetual Calendar boasts a steel case that is water-resistant up to 100 metres. It showcases its distinctive fluted bezel crafted from platinum, complemented by a steel bracelet. The dial, in a rich viridian green, is exquisitely finished by hand with a Grain d&rsquo;Orge pattern. The watch is powered by the exquisitely finished Caliber PF009 automatic movement, which offers a 48-hour power reserve.&nbsp;
On the dial, the watch presents all essential information. The 12-hour subdial displays the 30-year cycle, distinguishing between the 355-day abundant years in beige and the standard 354-day years in white. At the 3 o'clock position, a subdial marks the months of the year, with the ninth month, Ramadan, highlighted in bright red. The subdial at 9 o'clock instead indicates the days of the month, featuring an aperture to show whether it's a 30-day abundant month or a 29-day common month. A white aperture for the 29-day months and an activated beige aperture for the 30-day months is there, with the number 30 in beige and written in Arabic as ۳. Lastly, the subdial at 6 o'clock displays the moon phase in blue aventurine, illustrating the lunar position in both the northern and southern hemispheres.
